Joe Biden is trying to avoid responsibility for the border crisis he caused.
But his excuses aren’t working the way he hoped.
A top Republican yelled “it’s your fault” at Biden for fentanyl deaths during SOTU.
The number one killer of Americans ages 18 through 45 is now fentanyl overdoses.
Often Chinese suppliers send the ingredients for fentanyl to the cartels in Mexico, who create the fentanyl and then smuggle it across the border.
“I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years now. And at one time, we would never find fentanyl. Now we’re catching it all the time -and it is coming in different forms,” Robert Meza, an import specialist with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, told ABC News.
During the State of the Union Address, President Joe Biden brought up his concern with fentanyl deaths.
“Fentanyl is killing more than 70,000 Americans a year,” Biden said just before being interrupted by boos.
“It’s your fault,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) yelled while Biden smiled aimlessly at the Republican side of the aisle.
“Let’s launch a major surge to stop fentanyl production, sale, and trafficking, with more drug detection machines to inspect cargo and stop pills and powder at the border,” Biden continued.
“Working with couriers like Fed Ex to inspect more packages for drugs. Strong penalties to crack down on fentanyl trafficking.”
Rep. Ogles told reporters why he was outraged during Biden’s SOTU address.
“For him to tell us with a straight face and tell us he has a solution when with a stroke of a pen, he could’ve shut down that border and saved thousands and thousands of lives, but he didn’t have the courage to do it,” Ogles said.
“That offends me as someone who has worked in that space and worked on the southern border.”
During his speech, Biden desperately tried to make it look as though he should be celebrated for finally taking steps to solve the border crisis.
“We now have a record number of personnel working to secure the border, arresting 8,000 human smugglers and seizing over 23,000 pounds of fentanyl in just the last several months,” Biden said.
“Since we launched our new border plan last month, unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has come down 97%.”
“If you won’t pass my comprehensive immigration reform, at least pass my plan to provide the equipment and officers to secure the border,” Biden claimed.
“And a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, those on temporary status, farm workers, and essential workers.”
Former acting Department of Homeland Security secretary Chad Wolf responded to Biden’s claims tweeting:
“Biden talks about seizing thousands of pounds of fentanyl like it’s a success.”
“Perhaps he missed the testimony today that the fentanyl killing 100,000 Americans per year is being snuck across the border, making the cartels billions of dollars of income,” added Wolf.
